The following are local contraindications for massage. These concerns may be temporary or chronic and may be worked around during massage. For your safety and the benefit of your therapist, please communicate if any of these situations apply to you and indicate the location before treatment begins.
Abnormal lumps
Acne Vulgaris
Athlete’s Food
Blisters
Bruises
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Colitis
Crohn’s Disease
Cystitis (Baker’s and sebaceous)
Decubitus ulcers
Warts
Gouty arthritis
Graves’ Disease
Hernia
Infectious diseases
Hyper or Hypothyroidism
Irritable Bowl Syndrome
Local inflammation
Open wounds
Phlebitis
Shingles
Poison ivy, oak or sumac
Swollen lymph glands
Varicose veins
Ulcers
Unhealed burns (sunburn if not widespread)
