Massage-Endless Benefits

September 10, 2010

I was talking to a prospective client at an event for a company where I was paid to give 10 min massages to the employees . He was very busy in a highly stressful & demanding career. He didn’t think he needed massage in his life. It was too expensive and he didn’t have time or money for such “luxuries”. He decided to sit anyway and have a shoulder massage, since it was free. When I finished and thanked him, he looked up with a look of confusion on his face, said thank you and quietly went back to his office. I could tell he enjoyed the massage on some level and figured he was too proud to admit it after his earlier comments. Well, at the end of the day, I was packing up to go home and he came back by. I was surprised and flattered when he told me how much the session had changed mind about massage. He told me he felt so much clearer and calmer and it helped him deal with the crazy deadlines he was trying to meet that day. He had no idea massage was for more than just “pampering”. I proceeded to explain to him some of the other health benefits and we talked about how sensible it would be to get a regular massage. He has since been a steady client, with a standing appointment every week- set up ahead of time so that he looks forward to it! We have worked through digestive discomforts, sprained ankle recovery, tension headaches and even grief from loss of a family member. He came in to our session one day about 6 months after he started his appointments, and told me how hard it was for him to imagine his life “before massage”.

What a wonderful career where I can make such a difference in someone’s life!
